SELIAGROUP took delivery of the Road Scanner costing RM3.4 million equipped with computerized system to facility its road management and maintenance works.

The system for scanning using Global Positioning System, is integrated to give maps output of the roads being surveyed. All roadside events such as road furniture, lamp posts and junctions can be recorded digitally by for channel cameras installed on the vehicle.
The Road Scanner

A Network Survey Vehicle built on a Mercedes Benz Vito, currently used for our road maintenance by SELIAGROUP.

Role : To capture pavement condition data, survey mapping information and roadside asset details in one survey operation.

Operations : Collection of road data whilst travelling at normal traffic speed through an operator working from a specially customized computer consoles. The acquired data are later downloaded via a removable hard-drive or to a CD to be post-processed in the office.
TECHNICAL DATA

Components

o 13-laser Multi-Laser Profiler
o 4-Channel Digital Imaging System
o Gipsi-Trac road geometry and mapping system
o Differential Global Positioning System(DGPS)
o 4 computers connected by a 10Mbits/sec Ethernet communication network with 2 shared monitor, keyboard and a mouse switchers

Software

o Microsoft Windows for Digital Imaging System and Gipsi-Trac
o MS-DOS for Multi-Laser Profiler computer

Data produced by the Road Scanner includes:

1. Roughness (IRI-International Roughness Index)
2. Rutting
3. Texture Depth (SMDAT-Sensor Measured Texture Depth)
4. Visual road surface conditions
5. Visual road assets information
6. Road geometry and mapping of routes surveyed
(including grade, cross slope and position)
Supporting Instrument

The Walking Profiler is a precision instrument designed to facilitate the efficient collection and presentation of continuous paved surfaced information, including distance, profile, grade and IRI. It meets the World Bank Class 1 Profilometer requirements and it is also used for calibration of the Multi-Laser Profiler.
